Charles Forrester, London - IHS Jane's Defence Industry:

Germany is to promote industry consolidation in Europe, the German Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Sigmar Gabriel announced on 19 August.

Gabriel, a member of the Social Democratic Party, said that the country's industry perspectives "do not depend on exports alone". "We need to talk about European Consolidation, maintenance, and renewal of stocks."

The ECBFI noted that European stocks fell on Monday, trimming last week's lofty gains as concern over events in Ukraine and China's flagging manufacturing activity pegged a key index back from the top of its recent range.
